38+ EB Red Sox 3, 38+ Rockies 1
The Red Sox (14-5) clinched a play-off birth as they beat the Rockies in a pitchers duel, 3-1. Bill Hawkins went the distance allowing four hits while striking out nine to notch his twelve victory of the season. Ed Kolto threw very well in a eight inning effort for the Rockies, yielding just five hits.
The Rockies scored their one run (unearned) in the top of the third on two infield errors. The Sox evened the score in the bottom of the third when Jason Hurley walked and later scored on a sac fly to center off the bat of Walt Wellsfry. Dave Moret led off the bottom of the fourth with a triple to the wall in center and scored on a clutch line drive single to left by James Peacock. Peacock later scored when Doug Graff singled. Graff led the Red Sox with three hits.
Jason Hurley made ESPN Baseball Tonight with a spectacular diving catch in centerfield to rob Toby Pasillas in the first and earn top "Web Gem" of the week.
